Joe & Zan Tyler, Friday Night Keynote
Laughter is the Best Medicine
“Zan was my best friend and ministry partner when we were in college. I knew I loved her and wanted to know how she felt about me, so out of the blue (we had never dated), I proposed to her during our junior year. She didn’t speak to me for a month.” In spite of this rocky start, Zan and Joe Tyler have thoroughly enjoyed 32 years of marriage. They have experienced many joys and triumphs and weathered many storms. Along with the varied hats Joe wears in the home, he is in charge of attitude adjustments and comic relief. “Being able to laugh through the years has helped me survive things like threats of jail, the pressures of 21 years of homeschooling, and the stress of life in general. Joe makes sure I laugh a lot,” says Zan. Come enjoy a refreshing session of laughter and encouragement as Joe and Zan share candidly about the ups and downs of married life (including their biggest fight ever), while focusing on the biblical principles that have served as the unshakeable foundation of their marriage.

I Will Not Let You Go!
Based on the manipulative life of Jacob, his rival relationship with his brother, the lack of relationship between his mother and father, and his constant marital conflicts, the stage is set for a life of deception—self deception. Believing that holding on to a better inheritance, more children, a better wife, and a better job, will bring fulfillment, Jacob learns the hard way that he was holding on to all the wrong things in life. Join our journey with Jacob as we find unconditional acceptance in all the right places; but be prepared to fight because once you’ve found what you are looking for, you will need to hold on for your life! This seminar is based on Mark’s two years of research for his thesis and will cover sibling rivalry, marital conflict, parenting insights, and much more

A Great Awakening
We are entering a new Dark Age—one more subtle, more insidious. A culture sedated by sounds and images that deaden our senses and rob us of who we are created to be. “We are amusing ourselves to death.” Join Mark as he exposes the damaging effects that certain kinds of media, electronic games, and literature, have on the brain, the conscience, the imagination, and a child's moral and spiritual development. Most importantly, he will introduce a timeless principle which cultivates a hope that never disappoints.

How to Avoid Homeschool Burnout
Homeschooling is hard work that places great demands on us as parents. The combination of great demands and great expectations often sets us up for great failure and disappointment. We quickly find out as we homeschool that things don’t always go according to our plans. Sometimes, when we are doing our best to follow God and love our families, we unexpectedly find ourselves in the fiery furnace. Why does this happen? How does it happen? What is God trying to do in our lives? When Daniel’s three friends were thrown into the fiery furnace, through no fault of their own, they discovered deep fellowship with the “fourth man,” who is Christ. If we learn to look at the Fiery Furnace through the eyes of Scripture, we can begin to bask in God’s love in the midst of trials, rather than being consumed by the flames and “burned out” by our circumstances. In this workshop, we will look at the things that lead to burnout and talk about ways to avoid them. We will also talk about what to do if you find yourself already there—ready to throw in the towel and put your children on that very appealing yellow school bus. This workshop will contain many practical tips on streamlining your life, but it will also focus on vision. We must have a powerful, biblical vision of what we are ultimately trying to accomplish in the lives of our children through homeschooling in order to sustain us through hard times and difficult days.

How God Uses Our Weaknesses and Limitations as Homeschooling Mothers
Do you ever have those moments of panic when you wonder if you are giving your children everything they need to succeed in life? Or, in those rare quiet moments of thought and reflection, do you worry that you are inadequate for all that homeschooling requires of you? Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night plagued by the long list of important things that still need to be done—and know there will never be enough time in the day to accomplish them? If you, like I, have experienced these feelings and fears in your homeschooling journey, then come to this workshop and be encouraged. God knows that as human beings we are confined and surrounded by limitations and weaknesses. We will look specifically at the challenging areas of vision, finances, knowledge, home management, and fatigue. The Scripture provides promises of hope, strength, power, and help for those of us who are weak, weary, and imperfect. The Bible also instructs us in accomplishing the impossible as we bask in God’s boundless resources, amazing strength, and infinite love.

Raise Them Up Don’t Crush Them Down
One only has to listen to discover the heart of a child. Our goal as parents and teachers is to reach the heart, rather than simply realign behavior. Too often, we depend on rules as the primary enforcer of behavior. Rules can change behavior, but they can’t change the heart. When parents and teachers begin to discern the difference between character flaws and purposeful disobedience, they will implement a gentler approach to reaching and understanding their children. As a result, children will more willingly admit their faults and seek help from those they love. Children need to hear the beating of our hearts rather than the beating of our voices. Join Mark as he relates his experience as a shepherd and the important lesson that you don’t become a shepherd just because you own sheep.

Education of a Child—Wisdom of Fenelon
Working with parents and teachers over the past twenty-eight years, Mark will present what he believes is the most helpful and inspirational information of our day concerning the education of a child. Gleaning from a 17th-century gem, The Education of a Child from The Wisdom of Fenelon, Mark will present a “radical reversal” of our traditional approach to a biblical education. Commissioned to educate King Louis XIV incorrigible grandson to become the next king of France, Francois Fenelon wrote and then lived one of the greatest educational treatises ever written. In fact, in 1802, nearly 150 years later, Fenelon’s work was still revered as the most extraordinary educational work on record. Parenting based on gentleness, mentoring, joy, and patience will be among just a few of the highlights of this seminar. Through simple but forgotten common sense ideas, parents and teachers will gain an understanding that unlocks the heart and opens the mind—“When the level of fear decreases, the level of reasoning increases.”
