The Utah Christian Home School Association (U-TeaCH) provides support, education and fellowship for Christian families who have made the decision to educate their children at home. We also welcome inquiries from people who are thinking about beginning to home school. We provide field trips; workshops; support group meetings; a discount to membership in HSLDA; a high school graduation ceremony; an annual convention; an annual used book sale; a private, umbrella school; a resource library; and a monthly newsletter. We also alert members to pending legislation which might affect their right to educate their children at home.

Regional support groups are independent and offer additional activities depending upon the interests of their members.

We believe that the responsibility for training children has been given to parents by God. Parents may choose to delegate portions of this responsibility, however they will ultimately be accountable to God for what they allow their children to learn.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

Home schooling enables us to fulfill this mandate. There is a clear and critical difference between Biblical and secular viewpoints. In any subject, the complete truth cannot be taught when the Creator is denied or ignored. An education which never mentions God teaches children that He is irrelevant in daily living. Our mission is to encourage Christian parents to train up their children in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

"If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you serve. . . .
As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15)

In addition to the spiritual benefits, research has shown that children educated at home have many advantages:

Home education builds relationships between parents and children. Parents are able to spend more time with their children and be the primary influence in the childrens' intellectual and character development.

Home education provides a low teacher-to-student ratio which allows for customized curriculum, instant feedback and more one-to-one interaction.

Home educated children tend to excel academically, have fewer behavioral problems, develop better critical thinking skills and relate better with people in different age groups.

While the benefits of home education are many, like any other worthwhile activity, it can be difficult at times. It is our desire to provide a support system that Christian parents can depend upon to help them through the difficult times.

UTCH is a not for profit organization. Our existence depends upon dedicated members who volunteer their time and resources.
